Balcomb Blue Period home - Contemporary extension

Brief: This large, characterful, period home has been taken in a new and modern direction with this bright, bold extension.

We were asked to design a modern but sympathetic kitchen with walk in larder, the main challenge was the structural pillar in the heart of the kitchen space.  Prominent though it is, the pillar has enhanced the island we designed around it, grounding the furniture in the space and fixing the composition.

With distinctive cooking and preparation zones, the workflow is good as a working kitchen - also the space comes to life when guests arrive and spread out around the island, then into the generous dining and living space.
